About Dr. Prasinos

Dr. Prasinos:

   

  • Was in a successful private practice in Woodbury, CT for over 35 years;
  • Received his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Peabody College of Vanderbilt University (APA approved);
  • Completed his clinical psychology internship at Fairfield Hills Hospital (APA approved);
  • Has been licensed to practice psychology in Connecticut since 1983;
  • Directed a psychiatric ward at Fairfield Hills Hospital for 6 years;
  • Was the clinical administrator for Wellspring (an innovative residential facility) for 12 years;
  • Consulted to the St. Vincent de Paul de-institutionalization program for 2 years;
  • Has published original research in professional journals on such topics as  styles of loving and the psychology of humorous children;
  • Has published articles and given professional talks on the spiritual aspects of psychotherapy, dream interpretation, the psychology of music and more.
  • Has given professional talks on the psychology of music and healing through art;
  • Has given numerous presentations on topics including dream interpretation, marriage counseling, men's issues and Jungian psychology;
  • Has taught abnormal psychology;
  • Has published original science fiction stories (see "My Friend Max" in Psychology Today (2000)):     
  • Has been a singer/songwriter for over 20 years and has won numerous songwriting awards (New England Songwriting Contest 2023, 2022, 2020, CT Folk contest 2014).
  • Performs as "Dr. Steve:  The Psinging Psychologist" (visit: drstevesongs.com) where he blends song, story and audience discussion into a consideration of  "the good life."  He also fronts the acclaimed "Dr. Steve Band" which performs throughout the area.
  • Teaches "Shadow Songs", a psychological approach to songwriting, at SummerSongs songwriting camps  (see: SummerSongs) and is a SummerSongs board member;
  • Was awarded for  "Extraordinary Service" in 2023 by the Connecticut Psychological Association.
  • Has been married for over 35 years and is the father of 2 lovely daughters.
